The Coastal Resources Management Council has developed shoreline change maps that are additional to those already incorporated into the RI Coastal Resources Management Program (RICRMP or Red Book), such as those for the south coast between Watch Hill and Pt. Judith, that will comprise the state’s shoreline from Pt. Judith into and inclusive of Narragansett Bay and its islands to the eastern shoreline of Little Compton. The purpose of these maps is to show shoreline rates of change that will be applied to pertinent sections of the Council’s regulatory programs to address issues including setbacks of activities from coastal features. These shoreline change maps detail erosion rates for the shoreline, and are further detailed into shoreline segments for each map. In total there are 150 such maps. A map for Block Island is not included and setbacks and erosion rates for such shall be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The proposed shoreline change maps can be examined at the Council’s office in Wakefield. To facilitate the ability of interested parties to examine these maps on-line, they are also being made available for viewing here as jpeg files. However, due to the sheer numbers of the maps and the digital size of each, downloading the maps may take some time.
