Bay State Wind is a proposed offshore wind project located 25 miles off the Massachusetts South Coast, and 15 miles off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. The project is a 50-50 joint venture between Ørsted, the global leader in offshore wind, and Eversource, New England’s premier transmission builder.
Under the 800MW proposal submitted for Bay State Wind, the project will:
- Power 500,000 Massachusetts homes
- Include a 55MW battery storage solution
- Reduce carbon emissions to the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road
- Create over 1,200 annual jobs during construction
- Create 10,800 direct and indirect jobs over the life of the project
- Generate $1 billion in direct investment in Massachusetts
- Provide $17.5 million to support programs for low-income families
- Provide $30 million in lease payments, fees and taxes to support local governments
- Generate $300 million in annual winter price reduction benefits
Under its 400MW proposal, Bay State Wind will:
- Power 250,000 Massachusetts homes
- Include a 30MW battery storage solution
- Reduce carbon emissions to the equivalent of taking 175,000 cars off the road
- Create over 850 annual jobs during construction
- Create 7,900 direct and indirect jobs over the life of the project
- Generate $700 million in direct investment in Massachusetts
- Provide $8.75 million to support programs for low-income families
- Provide $15 million in lease payments, fees and taxes to support local governments
- Generate $150 million in annual winter price reduction benefits
