
The Northeast Climate Science Center has released Effects of sea level rise on barrier island groundwater system dynamics – eco-hydrological implications, a paper that examines the impacts of sea level rise on groundwater and vegetation on barrier islands. A model was used to evaluate how a barrier island groundwater system will respond to increases of up to 60 centimeters in sea level. The results showed that a sea level rise of up to 20 centimeters leads to significant changes in water table depth and saltwater intrusion depth.
