CRMC to hold mandatory Vibrio compliance workshops

Wakefield., January 13, 2016 – The Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) will be holding a mandatory workshop on compliance with the state’s regulations for temperature control of harvested shellfish, for all aquaculturists.

All current leaseholders must attend one of the three workshops that will be held in early 2016. The CRMC has conducted the harvest monitoring for compliance with the temperature control plan, and it has determined that there is a need for further education for members of the industry regarding the plan requirements.

The CRMC will offer the workshop on the following dates, to be administered by the CRMC aquaculture coordinator, David Beutel, as well as staff from the University of Rhode Island’s Coastal Resources Center, and Robert Rheault, executive director of the East Coast Shellfish Growers Association. All aquaculturists must attend a session if they plan to sell shellfish between June 30 and September 15, 2016.
