The first offshore wind farm in the United States, the 30 megawatt, 5 turbine Block Island Wind Farm began commercial operations in December 2016. It connects Block Island to the mainland grid for the first time – reliable, renewable energy that will reduce island electric rates by an estimated 40 percent and diversify Rhode Island’s power supply.
