Attendees: Mike McGiveney, Scott Marshall. Robert Rheault, Boze Hancock, Dale Leavitt, Marta Gomez-Chiarri, Bill Silkes, Dave Roebuck, Perry Raso, and David Beutel

  • Discussion of Seaside Organism disease Haplosporidium costale incidence in RI
  • Recent occurrence (June 2011) Rome Point and Potters Pond
  • Significant mortality of one year old oysters
  • Already here but infrequent incidence (since 1998)
  • Variable effects at each location
  • Issues of intrastate oyster seed transport
  • Funding needed for monitoring

Policy for seed transport: if pathology test is negative, seed can be transported throughout RI; if pathology report is positive, seed may be transferred to zones with historic record of detected disease; individual farmers may submit pathology reports indicating presence/absence of disease for historic record

Shellfish Zones(7): Winnapaug Pond; Quonochontaug Pond; Ninigret Pond; Point Judith and Potters Ponds; Sakonnet River and Mount Hope Bay; East Passage to Nyatt Point; and West Passage to Nyatt Point
