...to preserve, protect, develop, and restore coastal resources for all Rhode Islanders
The South Fork Wind Farm will produce enough clean, renewable energy every year to power 50,000 typical homes, displacing millions of tons of air pollutants each year and helping to jumpstart a local offshore wind industry. When energy usage is highest, the wind farm will complement existing power sources to ensure the area has enough power during peak hours.
All of the project’s electrical cables on the island will be buried beneath existing roads. The project will defer the need to build costly new fossil-fired power generators or controversial transmission lines, which will save money for ratepayers.
It will be designed, built and operated with extensive federal, state, and local oversight to ensure the highest levels of safety and environmental stewardship.
