RIDOT, CRMC, others honored by FHWA
September 18, 2012, WAKEFIELD – The Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management (CRMC), along with the R.I. Department of Transportation (RIDOT) and R.I. Department of Environmental Management (DEM) were recently honored by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Exemplary Human Environment Initiatives.
The RIDOT served as the lead agency for the RIDOT Stormwater Education Outreach Program, which promotes public awareness of stormwater impacts and provides training for government and local officials on current stormwater management practices. The CRMC and DEM coordinated on the training effort through the University of Rhode Island Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials network, a national program with a presence in more than 30 states.
In recognition for the efforts of the state, all of the partners will receive plaques and a summary of the Rhode Island program will be posted on the Federal Highway Administration’s web site.
