...to preserve, protect, develop, and restore coastal resources for all Rhode Islanders
Join the R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council at this weekend’s Newport Oyster Festival
Join the R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council at this weekend’s Newport Oyster Festival, at Bowen’s Wharf in Newport this Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22. Each day is full of events running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. The festival features growers only from Rhode Island, and a select group of restaurants and non-profits all at historic Bowen’s Wharf.
“Our aim is to offer the freshest oysters from all over the Ocean State, promote and educate the public on the heritage and future of RI aquaculture,” according to a statement from Bowen’s Wharf Company.
As the state agency responsible for the management and permitting of all aquaculture in Rhode Island, the CRMC is pleased to be a part of an event that celebrates the aquaculture industry and all that it offers Rhode Islanders. This and other oyster festivals also highlight the importance of the industry to the state, something that was a focus of the Rhode Island Shellfish Management Plan, developed by the CRMC in concert with the R.I. Department of Environmental Management, University of Rhode Island Coastal Resources Center and Rhode Island Sea Grant. (For more information on that, click http://www.rismp.org)
