July 12, 2007, WAKEFIELD – Aquaculture is a small but vital player in our state’s economy. The RI Coastal Resources Management Council considers education as always beneficial for the industry as well as to all Rhode Islanders, who serve as stakeholders. As part of the CRMC Working Group on Aquaculture Regulations, there will be a presentation and discussion on issues of the public trust doctrine. This event will be held on Thursday July 12, from 7-8 p.m. at the Corliss Auditorium at the University of Rhode Island Bay Campus.

Dennis Nixon, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Rhode Island’s College of Environment & Life Sciences, and Megan Higgins, Research Counsel for the Marine Affairs Institute/Rhode Island Sea Grant Legal Program at Roger Williams University’s School of Law will lead the discussion on the public trust issues. David Alves, CRMC’s Aquaculture Coordinator, will help to answer any questions on aquaculture following the discussion.
